Built into a sloping hillside overlooking the San Juan Islands, the cabin was designed as two connecting forms to create a main living space that feels as though it is a covered porch. The solid two story rectangular section contains the bedrooms and service areas. The living space is a cantilevering glass room that opens to a large deck that wraps around three sides. This double height space is enclosed with a large shed roof that also extends over the bedrooms. To further reinforce the interior's connection with the outside, the exterior wall finish of the bedroom area wraps through the living room wall.
