This extensive remodel gave new life to an old house with limited redeeming qualities. The final project is actually smaller in square footage than the original, and takes advantage of opportunities for outdoor living spaces. There was a desire to conserve some of the existing building rather than completely tearing it down and ultimately two-thirds of the original structure was preserved, concealed behind new additions and steel trellis work. Structural beams were saved and reused for benches and counters. On the property, the original concrete bulkhead was removed and a natural shoreline restored. An emphasis on native plants provides harmony between the landscape and surroundings.
