Located on a waterfront lake site on the Olympic Peninsula of Western Washington, this 1,500 square foot two bedroom cabin is carefully located. A very small building area, limited by a steep slope and heavy rainfall, was further constrained by the clients' desire to plan for a future detached garage and studio. Obtaining a variance provided the required buildable area and as a restorative measure, a careful landscaping plan was implemented return native vegetation, helping with erosion. The spine of the house is anchored into the hillside with an insulated concrete retaining wall. The bedrooms and great room area are oriented to capture views of the lake and mountains beyond.
