The client came to us with the desire to create a primary home that encompassed the traditional elements of a home in the mountains. At first the client wanted a traditional “cabin/lodge” look; after critical discussions the client found that she was looking for something with the warmth of the traditional but the excitement of a more creative space. She sought a design that was small enough for easy upkeep, but large enough to accommodate long visits from family members.
Another major factor was the desire to create a design that tied the manmade structure in with its surrounding environment. Fluidity is acheived with huge floor-to-ceiling windows in the main house (capturing spectacular views of mountains), oversized sliding doors, and a full-height stone fireplace that can be enjoyed inside or outside.
