A vacation cabin for a mother, father, three boys and their extended family, the Northcott Cabin sits on a narrow, wooded lot with direct access to a blue ribbon Chewuch River swimming hole and sandy beach. The design takes into account views to the river, solar access, neighboring homes, and the clients' enthusiasm for Japanese home design. The U-shaped space created by house and garage provides a protected "courtyard" to the south. The entry and utility room are raised a foot above the home's main level and are equipped with stomp grates and concrete interior floors in order to mitigate mess. The main kitchen/dining/living space as well as every bedroom opens out via patio doors to a wrap-around deck.
