REMODELS

It's time for a change. Your home isn't working for you anymore, but you love your neighborhood or you're not ready to take on a new build. Maybe you simply need a refresh of what you already have. Remodels can be hugely transformative while still allowing you to preserve what you enjoy about your home. We've had the privilege to work on a wide variety of remodel projects that have achieved dramatic results at a variety of scales. Here are some of our considerations for remodel projects.

RECONNECT

One of the most common moves in remodeling is to open up a house. We enjoy facilitating homes to achieve their full potential to connect to their surroundings and to improve the internal flow of space. Here are a few projects where new connections have utterly reimagined a home.

Left: Before  Right: After
A dramatic 'cut' through the center of Deer Harbor residence breaks free of the surrounding hipped roofs, opening dramatically to the layered islands beyond.

Left: Before  Right: After
Perched on the eastern slope of Queen Anne hill in Seattle, the Cascade View Remodel was opened up with a large sliding glass door allowing more direct access to the exterior deck and mountain and city views beyond.

VISION

Establishing a unifying vision is essential for any remodel project. Some projects dictate a subtle, light touch while some want to assert themselves.

The Lynx Lane cabin is a remodel to a small family cabin that called for honoring its history while pronouncing its renewal. A modern Scandinavian-inspired stair tower was inserted into the core of the cabin to create new sleeping spaces on the upper floor. The dynamic blending of styles was unified with materials and smart space planning to create a cozy cabin with a presence.

Originally, the Griffin Bay residence was a mid-century style house that already had a thoughtful relationship with its beautiful waterfront surroundings. This remodel updated the interiors and replaced all the windows and doors to reinforce the connection to the outdoors.

LANDSCAPE

Remodels aren't limited to the interior of the home. Landscape design unites indoor and outdoor spaces with the potential to extend the living areas, making the home feel more expansive and harmonious with its surroundings. Julia, our on-staff landscape architect, is available to bring a keen eye to these important spaces.

LIGHT & AIR

Natural light is important in all of our projects. In the Pacific Northwest, where overcast skies and rainy days are common, it is essential for creating welcoming interiors that maintain a sense of well-being. We're always looking for opportunities to bring this limited resource into our remodel projects through strategic window location, smart material choices and careful layout design. Natural ventilation pairs well with this strategy, further breathing life into your home.

DETAILS

Our careful attention to detail ensures that every aspect of a remodel is thoughtfully considered and executed. We take a holistic approach to design, ensuring that the project is cohesive at every scale. Through ongoing collaboration with quality builders, we make sure the level of craft and care is consistent throughout.

We believe in the power of remodels to transform a home. We love doing remodels because it is so gratifying to help a person reimagine their home as a place that can enrich their daily lives - at its best creating spaces that are both timeless and deeply personal.
