The Holiday Houses, designed for a resort near Yellow Mountain in China, are a set of several variations on a Pacific Northwest Modern theme: two to be placed on hillsides and four courtyard-centered designs in a range of sizes to be placed on flatter land in a more suburban layout.
The "hill" variations explore the possibilities inherent in using stilts to navigate the often-challenging, steeply sloped landscape where these houses are to be placed, while allowing the fundamental two designs to remain relatively unchanged.
The "courtyard" variations play with rooflines, including clerestories and pyramidal skylights, to keep the streetscape feeling fresh.
