An oddly shaped parcel of land which was once a gold mine gave ample opportunity for the local vernacular to be expressed through the crosscut nature of the house form. Clad in a combination of corrugated and flat Corten steel panels, the design features a central stone fireplace which references natural quartz and amber hues from the site. The steel and stone also creates a protective shell to shield from potential natural disasters. The plan is a simple dogtrot, which separates the living area from sleeping quarters and a lofted space above. The Falcon Mine residence replaces an existing house which was in disrepair; the new design takes advantage of its placement on the hill crest with primary Sierra Mountain views to the southeast and valley views to the northwest. Warm tones on the interior match the golden tones from the natural landscape beyond.
