When the clients came to use with this project, they had already been using the existing cabin on the site for a few years. They knew the landscape inside and out, and knew exactly where all of the best views were (hint: from basically all sides!) The site, being a large parcel of land that slopes steeply down toward the water, presented a classic tradeoff: the slope both affords sweeping views of the Olympic of the Olympic Mountains and Dabob Bay, while at the same time limiting the buildable area to the very top of the site. We worked with the clients to nestle the building into the landscape, allowing access to the exterior from multiple levels, and maintaining those dramatic views from as many areas of the house as possible.
