Located on the shore of Lake Pend Oreille near Sand Point, Idaho, Bottle Bay Residence is a new second home built on a sloping site with entry to the house on the upper level via a footbridge. The main living area is a story space with a large glass wall that opens to a patio and maximizes the view to the lake and mountains beyond. The bedrooms are in a separate wing of the house with the master bedroom on the ground floor while the upper floor contains a guest room and bunk room.
The Boat House was designed as a flexible space. In the winter it is used to provide storage for boats and other summertime recreation equipment, while in the summer it provides a space for outdoor entertaining and lakeside activities. As the structure is set within the lake's flood plain, the design was shaped by specific requirements: that it be rebuilt within the footprint of the dilapidated structure that previously existed, and that it is supported by 4' concrete foundation walls to withstand flood waters.
